H.O.G.S .... is a group of people who are interested in growing food organically. We do not pollute the environment, in that we grow without artificial fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides. We try to make the community aware that organic growing - be it commercial or backyard - is good for the environment. We encourage environmentally friendly use of the Earth in the home and everyday life, not just in the garden and on the farm.

Our goal is that after attending a year of our Meetings and Field Days you will have a clearer picture of how to grow organically and will be living in a more environmentally friendly way. To achieve this aim, we hold monthly field days and meetings (except in January) and conduct a series of lectures and demonstrations on the basics of organics. Our field days are usually in gardens, and on farms, where practical solutions can be observed or suggested and often feature a guest speaker. A healthy social environment leads to the exchange of information and the building of friendships. The first Sunday of each month we organise an organic market in conjunction with the Maitland Fair to provide a venue for organic products and producers. Committee meetings are usually held on the morning of field days and members are invited to attend and contribute. Only committee members may vote. We have a great selection of organic gardening books for sale and an extensive lending library of books and magazines available to members. We maintain a seed bank where members save open-pollinated seeds from season to season. Members are encouraged to make deposits and withdrawals.
